In England and in most of Europe there is a phenomenon that I had never encountered before, coming from the part of the world where we have perpetual daylight for two months of the summer. In May we dont really have a dawn so I had never encountered this wonder of the world before I moved to England. Dawn chorus happens in that moment when darkness turns to light. The first birds start singing, tentatively. Then another. Then a few more. And finally an whole symphony of birds sing so strongly just as the sun is rising. To celebrate this natural phenomenon I have organised a Dawn Chorus gathering on International Dawn Chorus day where I invited people to come along and share a pot luck breakfast.

Here is a recording I did in Devon of the dawn chorus.
